Preparing For The APUSH Exam
Hello! Everyday, I will be updating posts to help you prepare for the APUSH Exam. There will be unit recaps, key terms to know, and practice Multiple-Choice Questions that will be posted on Instagram daily (details of how to follow at the bottom). Today we are going to review Period #1 (1491 – 1607)
How to Succeed In AP US History
There are few exams that will be as challenging in high school as the AP US History Exam. Don’t worry; APUSHReview.com will walk you through everything in order to prepare for the exam.
Part I: What to Study
The Content
In addition to your textbook, review videos, and class notes, study the released curriculum by the College Board. (You can download the curriculum here).Within each time period, several historical events, people, terms, and concepts are listed. PLEASE BE AN EXPERT ON THESE TOPICS AS YOU ARE EXPECTED TO KNOW THEM IN DETAIL.
Here are some examples of what you should know for each time period. (Note, this is by no means an all-inclusive list, but if you can explain these items, you will be that much closer to success). If a term (especially time periods) are in red font, that means there is a link to video on the topic.
Period 1: 1491 – 1607 (4-6% of the Curriculum)
- Maize
- Geography of the Great Plains and Great Basin – nomadic lifestyle for Natives
- Columbian Exchange
- Encomienda System
- Reasons for European exploration
- Impacts of contact on Europeans, Africans, and Native Americans

Welcome!
Welcome to APUSHReview.com! For the past 11 years, I have been making videos and other content to help students succeed in their APUSH class AND on the test. In the coming weeks, I will have new videos, PowerPoints, and fill-in-the blank notes. Before the exam, I will have the entire curriculum in video and PowerPoint form. It’s a project I’ve been working on for a while and I am really excited to share with everyone. Please check back frequently as I will be updating often. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me at Adam@APUSHReview.com. Thanks for visiting!
Edit: I’ve been getting a lot of questions as to how these videos are different than others I produced. These are tailored to the specific learning objectives outlined in the curriculum (over 100 of them). At the end of each learning objective video, there is an assessment that will assess that specific learning objective from the video. These are what I am using this year in my APUSH classes.
